Chilean Conexion 3rd edition 2020

Hafnia are proud to once again be part of supporting the exhibition Chilean Conexion in Berlin.
“Chilean Conexión” is an exhibition of Chilean artists living in Berlin that aim to disseminate and increase the visibility of the work being developed by many migrating national artists in the German capital, with hopes to facilitate a meeting and connection between them and also within the local community.
Since the Berlin Wall fell, many Chilean artists and musicians have been relocating to the German capital, seduced by an effervescent artistic and musical scene, and for social-cultural relations that entice them to this particular city. These migrant artists often go unnoticed due to both their youth and also the large number of artists and musicians who arrive each year in the city, competing for the same workspaces and exhibitions.
Last September, a group of them was invited for the first time to exhibit part of the works they have been developing here, in a small collective exhibition. About 30 artists: 12 visuals, 11 video artists and 4 musicians were presented in a single night, being received with a massive attendance of the Chilean community and also the local public.
In this second edition, the objective is to expand and consolidate the exhibition, with more works and categories on display, which will include: the visual arts, video art, installations, acoustic projects and performances, in addition to several workshops, several of them supporting foreign artists. The exhibition will take place during “Berlin Art Week” and the “18 de Septiembre” (the Chilean national celebration) will also be held.

China: Revolution – Evolution. Propaganda Posters (1949-1983
In the mid-1990s, prior to the establishment of the Hafnia Foundation, Stevens Vaughn and Rodney Cone became fascinated by Chinese propaganda posters. During that period, when China was being re-cast as a modern, outward-looking country, those posters had fallen out of favor, and were sold cheap on markets. The beauty of these posters encapsulates the highest hopes of the utopia of the Red Army and communist China, where a distinction was drawn between purely ideological images and those depicting happy scenes of family life.
Within the ideological framework, Chinese propagandists succeeded in producing works that were exposed and appreciated for their beauty and their decorative use in both public and private spaces. In these Chinese propaganda posters, we can discern an array of different artistic styles, including social realism and traditional Chinese watercolour, the great natural talent of the painters is unmistakable.
The Hafnia Foundation is proud to present its collection in Europe especially in collaboration with The Istituto Garuzzo per le Arti Visive (Garuzzo Institute for the Visual Arts), with whom Hafnia since it's establishment has enjoyed a close relationship.
It is a great honour to be hosted by the Municipality of Saluzzo, as part of the “Start/Storia e Arte Saluzzo” showcase at the monumental complex of La Castiglia, where the exhibition entitled “China: Revolution – Evolution. Propaganda Posters (1949-1983)” is on display until November.

The Red Star Army Poster collection is to be exhibited at the Women's Museum in Aarhus, Denmark. This successful Exhibition titled Iron Ladies and Restocking was showed at the Danish culture institute in Beijing, with over 100.000 visitors. The exhibition reflects on the history on women's emancipation movements in China and Denmark.
As the Red Army prioritized gender equality and made women empowerment a strategy of their political agenda, the women's rights where implemented top down in China. The feminist movements in many Western countries only gained their rights through grassroots and protest and gained their freedom from the bottom and up.
The graphical expressions which comes forth in the exhibition of the Chinese women power poster collection in relation to the Danish Red stocking movement is a unique piece of political art history.

Hafnia's Nothing Gallery participated in the Ch.ACO 2020 Art fair, with a new Solo show from the Artist Stevens Vaughn titled:
"You are the centre of your world"
The show features the Pearl dragon throne with the invitation of all spectators to assume the throne and take responsibility of their world.
The dragon pearl throne wears a thousand pearls symbolizing the thousand eyes of the Guanyin Buddha.
Surrounding the Throne is the paintings created by Vaughn in Valparaiso titles Sombras y membranes.

“Iron Women and Red Stockings”

Danish Cultural Center in Beijing recently opened the retrospective poster exhibit “Iron Women and Red Stockings” which is a double representation of Danish and Chinese women’s liberation campaigns and propaganda posters from the 1940’s through the 1970’s.
“Iron Women and Red Stockings” prompts us to recall the propaganda poster as an art form, and not least a means for proactive gender politics, welfare and socially founded growth.
The exhibit is organized in collaboration with Hafnia Foundation and Kvindehuset i Gothersgade.
The double exhibit is part of “Women Hold Up Half the Sky,” which largely informs this year’s activities for, about, to and by women in China and the North, staged by the Cultural Center in 2019.
The exposition of the Chinese and Danish propaganda works reminds us of the interplay between progress, welfare, human worth and a proactive gender policy.
By drawing parallels between Denmark and China and the advances done in the two countries, the exhibit aims to illustrate that gender equality, although it is predominately the same battle, must find its own culturally characteristic expression.The Chinese poster collection (Curated by Rodney Cone and Stevens Vaughn) mirrors the Cultural Revolution in Communist China from 1949 to 1979 and constitutes the greater part of the exhibited posters.
The Danish posters reflect the women’s movement from 1969 to 1979 with posters from the the Red Stocking Movement, Countess Danner, the summer camps on the island of Femø i.a. Which Kvindehuset I Gothersgade have supplied in the form of high-res scans.
The exhibit will “Iron Women and Red Stockings” will run until 2 June 2019.

Nord Art will again be presenting new highlights from China in 2019. After Liu Ruowang's spectacular apes and Xu Bing's phoenixes, visitors can look forward to Noah's Garden by Deng Guoyuan and Babylonian by Xi Jianjun. All prize winners of NordArt 2018 will be represented with new works this year. These include the three Public Choice Award winners Xiang Jing, Zhang Dali and Ekaterina Zacharova as well as Michal Gabriel, winner of the NordArt Prize sponsored by Hans-Julius and Johanna Ahlmann.

From November 2018 to January 2019 the artist Joachim Silué will present his work at the Montresso Foundation in Morocco.
His series of works are created by using organic materials and photographs that allow the artist to create his artistic poetry during his experience in Marrakech. Painting, sculpture, installation, photography and design are the media he is using for develop his artistic expression.

This exhibit, which is being presented for the first time in Rome, corresponds to a selection of posters and original paintings, used as patterns for printed sheets, during these years. This collection, which has been exhibited in different art spaces around the world, consists of 89 posters from the times of the Revolution.
The event will be in charge of Mr. Rodney Cone, Stevens Vaughn and Alfredo Varas, Directors of Hafnia Foundation and curated by Massimo Scaringella.
